Del Mar Race Track

Yesterday, Sandy and I were invited down to go see the Del Mar Race Track in San Diego thanks to Carly and Danny. It was a dizzying day of horse racing, cheering spectators, colorful jockeys and big hats! We won a few races and lost much more than I care to keep track of, but all in all we had a great time. Special thanks to my mom and dad for watching our kids so that we could get away for the day.

Before each race begins, they would parade the horses and jockeys around this garden area for the spectators to inspect the horses.

This fan got up and personal with one of the horses.

I have a hard time taking seriously anyone who wears a hat with a fuzzy ball on top.

They have these huge tractors which groom the field prior to the races.

And we're off to the races!

There is a tradition in horse racing for women to wear big hats. Sandy even got one.

Some of the guests were quite dressed up. I felt like I was at Prince Williams and Kate Middleton's Royal wedding with all the fancy hats around.

After every race, the spectators would migrate into this hall to collect their wins and place their next bets.

  2. Looks like you had a lot of fun. Gotta love those big hats! Great pics. Very clear shots of the horses and jockeys...and even the spectators.
